Tampa Mega Career Fair (MAGA – Making America’s Workforce Great Again)

This job fair is sponsored by Joblink and a great way to start the job hunt. It’s absolutely free. All you need to do is register online and print out a ticket to be admitted to the event. It usually takes place in December, in Adamo Drive, Tampa.

Hiring managers from different Fortune 500 companies will be present during the event, so it’s really a great opportunity to get a feel for what they’re looking for and really make an impression. You can even get hired on the spot.

This will be held at the Holiday Inn Tampa Westshore Airport in North Westshore Blvd., Tampa, — on January 10, 2018, 11 AM to 2 PM. This is sponsored by Best Hire, so make sure to go to their site, upload your resume and register.

The event itself is free. You only have to follow their online registration process to get it. A Brief History on Microsoft

With almost three decades worth of history, Microsoft still stands as one of the biggest tech companies in the world. In 1990, the same year the Hubble telescope was launched, Microsoft Office was officially introduced to the public. Since then, it has made so many contributions to the global population.  That’s why a Microsoft education offers so many opportunities. To better understand this company, here is a rundown of its milestones through the years.

Microsoft Education Starts with Understanding The History

The company was started by childhood buddies, Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Even before being tech savvy was mainstream, these two were already dedicated to mastering computers. During that time, that hobby was difficult to pursue because computers were hard to source. That’s why these two skipped classes just to spend time in the computer room. They were even caught hacking the school’s computer.

Classroom Heroes

Instead of getting expelled or earning their way to detention, they were let off with a warning if they both promised to improve the school computer’s performance. Because that meant unlimited computer access, they said yes. They were so good at it that they even sold the city of Seattle a computer that counted the city’s traffic.

It was in 1975, after Gates quit Harvard and after the pair developed a programming language for Altair, that Microsoft was born. In a year, they were registered as a business, with Bill Gates as CEO and Allen as Executive VP.

Microsoft Begins

Their first standout product was the Microsoft’s Operating Systems which is a software that computers need to operate. The first operating system the company released was Xenix. This was a version of Unix that was released in 1980. The OS was then used as a basis for the company’s first word-processor, the Multi-Tool Word. This was prior to Microsoft Word.

What really catapulted them to the top in the 80s was the Microsoft Disk Operating System (MS-DOS). They developed it for IBM and patterned from the QDOS which was made by Tim Paterson. With this program, the company made landmark business decision. They only licensed the software, retaining the rights to it and earning them a lot of money.

A Company of Many Talents

During this time, the company was also developing Windows. This was Microsoft’s bread and butter, a multitasking environment and graphical user interface specifically made for IBM. With all these achievements, the company finally went public in 86m making Gates a billionaire at 31.

Almost into the 90s, they released Microsoft Office. This is a set of programs — including a spreadsheet, presentation software, word possessor and more — that are still relevant to this day. Granted, they’ve seen many changes, but they were all developed from this collection.

In 1995, Microsoft pioneered a program that allows you to access the internet through the Internet Explorer 1.0. Since then, they’ve branched out gaming devices like the Xbox and hardware devices like the Microsoft Surface.

With a full and rich history like this, it’s no wonder that Microsoft is still one of the main developers of software in business and in life.  With a Microsoft education, your potential is unlimited.

Web Trends: Looking Back at 2017

The world of technology is ever-changing, and 2017 was no exception. The trends that govern a successful online strategy five years ago could be obsolete now.  If you’re a tech-savvy IT education seeker or someone who manages your company’s online presence, you want to be aware of these changes and trends.  Online marketing is one of the most complicated and highly sought after skills in the tech industry, and you can never learn enough about this fascinating subject!

IT Education Includes Being Aware of Online Marketing Strategy

To have a better insight into the trends this past year, here are some of the most online marketing updates in 2017.

“Fred” from Google

While this was not tagged as an official update, it was certainly one of the most talked about. The name friend was coined by a Google analyst named Gary Illyes. He said that Google has created an updated that is aimed at lessening black hat tactics which have to do with aggressive advertising.

It instituted a worldwide clean up of dummy sites that were made and put up not for any specific purpose — like answering a query — but generating revenue of some sort. This good news for anyone who has been brought down the rabbit hole by this sites which pepper the initial pages of search results for almost any product or service.

Backlink Updates

Although it’s vague what actually was updated, there was a major shift in how backlinks work. It became obvious around February this year that there was something different about it. Later on, chances were also noticed on private blog networks and Penguin.

Unlike the latter where the solution was obvious — create relevant and purposeful content, you need to do some trial and error with this one. Figure out what works and what doesn’t.

Penalties for Intrusive Interstitial

Interstitials are not fun for anyone. These are ads that load in between two different content pages. They deter from the actual page and makes the user experience worse than it has to be.

The same is true for pop-ups for mobile users. They significantly slow down the loading of the page and many other unwarranted complications. Looks like Google made good on its promise a few months when it said it was going to do something about intrusive interstitials and pop ups.

Generally, these updates weren’t just made for the users — but they were the primary priority. They’re also good news for sites with actual products and which pride themselves for good design, content and ethics. With the bad sites lower in rankings, it’s your time to shine.

Technology Professionals Wish You a Techie Holiday

As technology professionals, we may have a different idea of the perfect holiday than you.  Here’s what our day would look like if we lived in a techie wonderland.

Morning

On Christmas morning, we wake up to an alarm that plays our favorite motivational tune.  Our coffee is already brewing since our smart home knows what time we get up.  While sipping our brew, we carouse the latest tech news and blogs, and even surf through social media.  After updating our status to tell our social network to have a great holiday, we make our way out to the living room with our family.  Our digital pictures smile at us from our digital ornaments on our Christmas tree, and when we open our presents, we find the latest gadgets and gizmos!

Afternoon

It’s time to go see the rest of the family!  We automatically start our car and after it hits the perfect temp, we head out.  Our self-driving car does most of the work, and we’re able to speak to long-distance relatives on the way with our hands-free mobile capabilities.  We then spend the rest of the ride singing along to our favorite Christmas tunes- and we skip the ones we don’t like because we have that ability with the latest technology.  We don’t need to stop and fill up on gas, because our car is electric or uses alternative energy sources.

Evening

After a great day of visiting, we’re back home.  We ask our SmartHome to brew us up some delicious hot chocolate, with marshmallows of course, and settle down to watch our favorite holiday movie.  Our Smart TV allows us to choose any holiday movie we like, and we spend the rest of the evening laughing and filling ourselves with holiday happiness and cheer.

What To Get Your IT Staff for the Holidays

The Holiday Season is a time for giving and making people feel appreciated and cared for. That includes your employees. A small trinket or gift showing them your gratitude and appreciation for the work that they do will go a long way.

IT Staff Members Love These Holiday Gifts

The gift doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant. What’s important is the thought that you put into the gift. For example, it might not be a good idea to give your employees who are predominately vegan vouchers to a steak restaurant. Think of something that they can use or will enjoy.

To help you out, here are some gift suggestions for your IT staff. Some of them are unique and others are expected but useful.

Headphones

Yup, basic, right? However, working in IT usually means they have to be focused and glued to the screen. They usually keep their headphones one to cancel out the noise or listen to their favorite music so they can focus. Getting the more comfortable or higher quality one will be very appreciated.

Touch Screen Gloves

Taking their profession into consideration, these are very tech-loving people. When they take a leave off of work, they will most likely be on their phone. Truth be told, most people are — regardless of profession — but more so your IT staff. It’s irritating that they always have to pick between keeping themselves warm and using their phones. Now, they can do both with touchscreen gloves.

Diffuser

Working with computers can be consuming and exhausting. Help your IT staff relax by gifting them with a diffuser. Make sure to add a few essential oils, like lavender, that soothes the nerves and calms them down. They can either use this at work — a small set up on their table — or by their bed, getting them ready for work the next day.

Coffee Gift Card

Most IT departments work 24-7, especially when the nature of your company is e-commerce, shipping or business process outsourcing. That means their work hours are uncommon, and coffee is usually their pick-me-up. Regardless of what time they work though, coffee is the universal language of most employees. Get them a card that makes coffee free for a week or month and you’re instantly in their good graces.

Meal Containers

A lot of people prefer preparing their own meals at home and taking them to work. That way they can avoid stale sandwiches and expensive restaurants with long lines. You can even throw in a cookbook and encourage them to try a relaxing hobby. They can test out recipes that are easy to prepare but are delicious and great to take to work.

People now live in a fast-changing world where using technology is inevitable. Communication, marketing, health monitoring and even getting directions are driven by some form of technology. That’s great news for tech-savvy people who happily welcome the change that a more advanced world brings. However, this is a nightmare for people are not as in tune with using these new gadgets, apps, and programs.

Follow These Three Tips for Learning New Technology

If you’re one of those people, this article will prove useful. Here are a few tips you can try when faced with learning new technology.

Identify a goal that can motivate you.

Nothing can inspire you to do something outside of your comfort zone like a goal you feel passionate about. Define it concretely and visualize it. That way, when the going gets tough, you have something to look forward to. Seeing the bigger picture, what you want to get out of learning a particular technology, helps you move consistently in the direction.

For example, if you want to be settled, with your own home and car, by the time you’re 30, you need a thriving business. That will encourage you to study all the apps and tools, whether that MailChimp or Google AdWords, you need to market your business right. Every time you want to give up, just close your eyes and imagine that goal.

Learning for learning’s sake is great, but that rarely motivates anyone especially when there are more exciting things to do. Be ambitious and use that ambition to fuel your determination to learn the technology in front of you.

Come up with milestones.

Learning a new technology is a long road, filled with different segments to master. Find out what these segments are and focus on just one at a time. Breaking the task down makes it last daunting and easier to commit to.

Once you have the segments down, research. Figure out what makes it difficult for other people, why they give up learning it and what you can do to avoid that. If you’re trying to learn Photoshop, you can try using a couple of tools at a time and master them before moving on to the next set. At least, you won’t feel overwhelmed all of the functions and buttons available to you.

Watch how other people do it.

Not only will this make the process so much easier because you know what you’re doing, it also proves that it can be done. Instead of picking a technical manual to study a particular program or gadget, go online. Watch a few videos or read how-to guides. They usually break down the process of using an app or device, so it’s easier for beginners to get.
