Latest Microsoft Updates for September 2017

If you have Microsoft products you will quickly see that regular updates are available to move your system along. This September, there are some major updates and service packs available through Windows Update.  Here is what you should look out for, especially if you are a Microsoft Certified Professional.

Windows 10 Updates

Windows 10 Version 1073 is the latest major update to Windows 10.  They’ve labeled this the “Creators Update”.  In this update the following changes have occurred:

  • The Windows Imaging and Configuration Designer has been relabeled the Windows Configuration Designer.  It is available in the Windows Store as an app.
  • You can now create provisioning packages using the Windows Configuration Designer to enroll devices in the Azure Active Directory.
  • You can now turn off Windows Spotlight on Action Center, and turn off the Windows Welcome Experience.
  • Customized Start and taskbar layouts can be applied to devices using Windows 10 and Windows 10 Enterprise and Education.
  • Cortana and Azure AD join forces for easier access and shared Cortana capabilities
  • New features added to Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection
  • Small updates have been made to various aspects of Windows for Business

Windows 8 Updates

Windows 8.1 is the latest major update to Windows 8, and has been codenamed “Blue”.  In this update, the following changes have occurred:

  • The Start screen has many small new features, most notably an extended “All Apps” view.  This view allows you to sort small and extra-large sizes for tiles.  Additional customization options were also added.
  • Tighter integration with windows-based cloud services
  • Increased security, including a device encryption update
  • Support for Workplace Join feautre
  • Support for 3-D printing

This year, a lot of standalone gadgets have either quirky uses, like the Snapchat glasses, or a very niche purpose, such a compact sous vide machine. Here are some of the most groundbreaking, useful and innovative new technology releases this year.

  • Here One

Whether it’s on the subway, on your way to work, or aboard a plane with an economy class seat, you must admit the noise can be irritating. Everyone wants to avoid the seat right next to a wailing baby or someone talking too loudly. Here One allows you to turn down anyone or anything’s volume. That way, you’re saving your ear from the constant wailing, while keeping yourself alert in case someone calls your name or tries to talk to you.

It comes with an internal motor powered by a battery, a wireless sensor that hinders thieves from stealing your bike (and the wheel) and increases the efficiency of your brakes. If you’re hardcore cyclists who enjoy the power of your legs, then this might not be for you. However, if you’re a regular commuter looking for a faster and easier way to travel on your bike, this is an amazing addition.

  • Space X Falcon

Who isn’t a fan of space and space exploration? There is so much out there people are yet to discover, so it’s not surprising that country’s continue to invest in building rockets no matter how expensive they get. The issue is rockets are made to be used once, making it a far more expensive endeavor. The SpaceX is hoping to change that by designing the Falcon 9 to land back on Earth upright, preserving its shape.

The concept of the cloud technology has been well-loved since it was first introduced, but very few truly understand what it is and the power it has to influence our daily lives. Basically, the cloud is responsible for any process that you don’t do or store on your own computer. See, when the cloud first came into creation, it looked different and served limited functions. Now, it has morphed into a very useful technology that people can’t seem to live without.
